When I was young, I always wanted a bike. Pero wala ako nun noon. Noong elementary days ko, I have a cousin who has a bike. Whenever we go to our relatives in the more rural area of our town, she would go there by bike while we go walking. And during those days, biking is a big deal.
Yung tatay ko eh busy bilang Police Officer while my mother was busy fulfilling her duties as a Barangay Kagawad.
Since high school na, maraming group projects at activities. So lagi kaming nasa galaan. Sometimes, we would go to the houses of our classmates every week just to finish a report, project, assignments, etc.
Every saturday, we would go to my friend’s house because of that. Kapag may kailangang gawin, I always suggest na doon na lang gumawa kasi convenient para sa lahat and then makakapagbike pa ako. Two birds in one stone.
I taught myself to ride a bike. One of my achievements yun in life. I did that all by myself.
But I still didn’t own one.
I didn’t own one until this 2016. 8 years ang nakalipas bago ako nagkabike. It’s better to be late than never ika nga. And this summer, I tested my skills in biking. I started riding small distances just to practice.
Then, I started going to urban places.
Biking for me is an experience I can’t get tired of. Nakakapagod siya pero in return you’ll feel healthier and stronger. One of the advantages of biking is the strengthening of your stamina. Before, I only go biking for an hour but now, I can last for more than 4 hours. Nakakatuwa lang na I can feel myself getting stronger every time I go for a ride.
Biking is also great if you want to meet new friends. Well, I have a friend na nilamon na ng biking and he helped me meet new people. You get to meet people of all ages with a common denominator: the love for biking.
You also get to visit new places. You get to see new landmarks na hindi mo pa nakikita before. You get to visit new places to eat to kasi nakakagutom ang pagbabike. You get to memorize passages around the city to get to one place to another conveniently. Marami kang maeexperience because of biking.
Before, I don’t know how to ride a bike and I don’t own one. But now, I do. Minsan talaga it takes a lot of time bago mo makuha ang gusto mo. It takes time to learn something and to finally own something. You just have to persevere.
In biking, kailangan na marunong kang magbalanse. Parang sa buhay din yan. Kapag natumba ka, bumangon ka. Just like in biking also, in life, you have to keep pedaling to keep moving forward. You have to move forward or else matutumba ka. Di ba may hugot din?
Biking is an exercise, an experience, and a lifestyle. Magbike na kayo. Let’s lakbay to love together. Believe me, you won’t regret it.
